EXPLORE JAPAN

Icons, Illustrations, Animation

Explore Japan is a cohesive and immersive travel guide that was drawn up from a vision I had in order to help those that were planning on traveling to the great country of Japan. I wanted to let fellow travelers know of places to visit and how they could get from place to place by transportation and use Japanese etiquettes and common sayings.

There are so many places (basho) of interest in Japan. From the great cities of Tokyo and Osaka, to ancient temples, castles or shrines. The country is full of sights and wonders. I decided to categorize them in areas and regions with hanko based iconography. From the map, you can easily see the locations. For travelers, the map can help plan out a route for their Japan tour.

For the next section, I wanted to focus on transportation (Kōtsūkikan) and how travelers can utilize the Japanese public transportation. I wanted to illustrate the Shinkansen (bullet train), taxi, subway with texturized illustrations.

Next, I wanted to give a few translations for travelers when they come across having to interact with Japan residents and businesses.

Lastly, I wanted to show basic Japan etiquette. Japan has very interesting etiquette that foreigners might not be aware of. I produced iconography for the different etiquettes with a subtle O or X to represent "Do's and Don'ts".

The cherry blossoms (sakura) are illustrated with the repeated texture throughout this travel guide with Mount Fujisan in the background. This travel guide demonstrates my abilities to illustrate information and easily interpreted iconography. I also hope to expand this travel guide to more interesting facts and travel tips!
